PDF Forms - continuous text

I am trying to set up a PDF form for a client using Acrobat Professional since I don't have LiveCycle (I am on a Mac and don't do a lot of web based projects).

See attached file for example of what I am trying to do: The fields at the top are all individual and the user can tab through them, but I need to set up a set of text boxes in the comments section on each one of the lines shown (client wants the lines for hand completing purposes instead of computer use), but as you get to the end of one line, I need it to immediately go to the next line/box below without having to tab. I know you can set this up in LiveCyle but I don't have access to this. Is there a way to make this happen in Acrobat Professional?

Security Method is grayed out

I need to change the Security Method on a PDF file so I can reduce the file size with file optimizer.

The problem is the drop-down menu for Security Method (File > Properties > Security) is grayed out. Also, the button for "Change Settings" and "Show Details" are grayed out as well. Below, the Document Restructions Summary shows "Allowed" for everything listed.

In the meantime, "PDF Optimizer" remains grayed out and I need to reduced the size of a PDF.

Any help with this would be appreciated.

Thanks

Problem printing PDF with Acrobat Pro 9.4.4

Hi!

I can't correctly print a PDF with Acrobat Pro that was created in Indesign CS5.

I want to print it on a letter format (8,5 X 11") and it offers me a format of 8,49 X 10,99". It results in having my document being printed as tile with it's original format 12 X 21,5" as if I didn't adjust the format to be reduced.

I temporary used Preview to print my PDF, but now I can't as the encoding in which I received the PDF used to be "Creo Normalizer JTP" and now it is "Adobe PDF Library 9.9"

If anyone can help!

This is my first time here, thanks in advance for your help

I am using Adobe CS 3, Acrobat 8 Professional, on Mac OS 10.4.11

I am trying to convert a full color PDF document to grayscale. I tried to click Advanced > Print Production > Convert Colors and then Grayscale, but it is not working.

I tried clicking Print and then choosing a PDF option, but it is taking unreasonably long and not finishing.

So how can I convert it to grayscale?

How do I embed streaming audio into a PDF?

I've seen threads and question on embedding a YouTube video which I can do, but haven't seen anything regarding streaming audio embedding.  There are music sites out there that let you embed their song players (Soundcloud for example), how would I go about doing that?

I also wouldn't mind embedding a YT player w/only the player controls as well (see below), but I can't figure out how to do that either.  Your help is greatly appreciated, being trying to figure out how to do this for hours now.

FYI, I know how to embed audio, but I would rather stream the audio to keep the file size small.

Show/Hide buttons using java script...

I would like to use a list box to select which buttons are visible.  I found the following script on another page and tried to make it work for my

situationif((getfield(class select").value=="10th Grade English")

{

getField("competency 10").display=display.visible;

getfield("objective 10").display=display.visible;

}

else

getField("competency 10").display=display.hidden

getField("objective 10").display=display.hidden

I named the list box 'class select' and I have 2 sets of buttons, one set for competency and one set for objectives.

I keep getting an error.  Basically I would like this too happen.  When I select 10th grade english in the list box the competency/objective buttons for 10 grade english become visible.  When I select 8th grade english the competency/objective buttons for 8th grade english become visible.  I am using a button with popup window to populate a text field.  I have created buttons for 8th grade and 10 grade and I would like to only have the one I need visible when I need it.  I was going to set the buttons over top one another and let the use the same text field when visible.  If there is another way to do this I'm open to suggestions, but it seemed easier to just make my buttons visible/hidden.  I'm sure I've screwed something up I just don't know what

Cannot display embedded font, saving pdf's for quark

Hi there

I work on a series of publications that we produce in quark. We receive artwork in both tiff and pdf format. When I receive pdf artwork, I was told by my previous designer (who has since left) that I should resave the pdf artwork as a tiff, 16bit and cmyk (to make sure it has been saved as cmyk colour to print).

Recently I have noticed on 2 pieces of artwork I have saved in thsi way that the fonts are changing when I open the pdf in Photoshop. When I view it in Adobe reader teh fonts appear fine, when opening it in Photoshop they ahev changed but I receive no warning of this, then when I open it in Adobe Acrobat Professional they they appear changed and I get the message "Cannot extract embedded font...... Some characters may not print of display correctly".

This has made me question whether I really need to resave the dpf's as tiff format at all, as I could be losing font information, but how else can I check they haev been saved in cmyk colour?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

scroll bars missing in page document view

I have a pdf where the scroll bars at the right and bottom sides of the document window are not visible. I cannot figure out what command or tool is being used to suppress these scroll bars - as they are viewable in every other pdf i have!  I have searched on "scroll bar" in the help files and in the forums  but have not found anything to help me out. I'm hoping you can. I suspect the suppression of the windows is document specific - the pdf itself is a book called the Public DOmain publiched by Yale University press and released in pdf for for free under a Creative Commons license.  http://www.thepublicdomain.org/download/ . But I have no idea how it was done, or more importantly how to undo it. (There are no security restrictions on this document)

I use Acrobat pro 9.4.4

thanks for any help you can provide

cheers

Acrobat X and Hebrew / Arabic

$

In my buraeu we use Acrobat Pro 9 and OS X 10.6. Using the new "Print to Adobe PDF" command from the print panel we can produce PDFs that include hebrew, greek, and other languages (in unicode encoding). The version we use is NOT the Middle Eastern specific, but the U.S., sold by Adobe in the USA. In the same production environment we test CS 5.5, which includes Acrobat X. Whenever we try to print a document (from Apple Pages, Nisus Writer Pro, or other unicode aware apps that support right to left) with the "Print to Adobe PDF" command, the operation fails, during "Validating Input". If we remove any traces of Hebrew / Arabic, the document prints as expected (e.g. Greek, Phonetic Alphabets etc).

To sum up:

Although Acrobat Pro 9 supports printing documents with Hebrew, Acrobat Pro X does not. As you can understand it is a show-stopper. Is anyone else having the same problem? Could there be a problem with the trial?

Thanks in advance,

Peter

Image Placeholder for Reader

I am trying to create a printable form in Acrobat X that will allow a user to replace a photo/logo with their own. I would like them to be able to click on an image in Reader that opens up a "browse for image" window that will replace the current image. I am assuming this is a custom javascript in the forms actions section.

Here is an example of what I am trying to accomplish: http://youtu.be/FIiF1WZ8Veo In this screencast, they do it at about 3:10 into the video. I would appreciate anyone who knows how to obtain this result.

Is there a shortcut to combine files into a single PDF?

$

I used to use Acrobat's 'Organizer' feature to have the "Combine Files Into A Single PDF" button on my screen while I was working. With Organizer gone I have to go to "File->Create->Combine Files Into a Single PDF..."  While that isn't a huge amount of work, it is cumbersome if you are doing it 50 times.  Every week I have to take multiple pages of ads and combine them into one pdf...and I have to do this for about 50 stores.

Is there another, easier way to access "Combine Files Into A Single PDF"?

Thanks!

Issue with 'Please fill out this form' message

$

I'm primarily a print designer and produce a number of small magazines for various clients. For the last few issues I've also created an interactive PDF from the original InDesign CS4 file. It's quite simplistic - just some next page/previous page/zoom in/zoom out buttons and various hyperlinks to external content etc.

These have always worked fine in the past but the latest one I've exported as a PDF has the purple warning box at the top 'Please fill out the following form...'. I understand from the forums that you can't remove this bar but none of the previous files I've exported have had it - I assume because there were no editable fields on the document just simple click boxes to navigate, zoom, link to URL etc.

Can anyone think what I've done differently on this latest PDF to now get this warning? I've check the 'Fields' list in Acrobat Pro and all the fields are simple 'OK' buttons (on both the old files and the new one). It doesn't make any sense to show the purple bar as there is not form to fill in, just buttons to click.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Cheers in advance,

Jon

Text gets hidden on PDF form

I have created a PDF form with Acrobat Pro 9 and saved it as a form extending its features to Reader.

When I open the form with Reader 9 it allows me to fill in the fields but I can only see text in the field I am clicked on. Any previous fields I have typed text into is hidden (invisible) as soon as I click on another field.

I tried selecting all the fields and changing the background to a random color and then back to a non-colour and saving that form. When I opend it in Reader I was able to see all the text that I input and I though it was fixed. But when you close the file and save it and then reopen it, all the text is hidden again until you click on each field to be able to see it.

Does anyone know what's going on?

SECURED forms ?

I am using Acrobat X version 10.1.1 on Mac OS X version 10.7.2.  I have accessed a form from the Illinois State Board of Education website (http://www.isbe.net/spec-ed/html/forms.htm#iep) which is intended for use by anyone going to the site.  I am able to fill in fields, but when I save the form to my computer, it shows as being (SECURED) and I am unable to save as a Microsoft Word document (which I need to do) as I get a message indicating that "the document has insufficient permission for this operation".  Any ideas why this is happening?  If I click on the Security Settings, it states that "this document has an open password or a modify password.  You cannot copy this document".  I would greatly appreciate any assistance or insight you can offer!

paper selection on Pixma MX860

When printing from Acrobat Pro X (and similarly from Pro 8), I can only select paper from the rear bin of the printer.  There are two bins (cassette and rear).  There is no place to select the bin in the Acrobat print dialog, but if I click on the "Printer" button, I get the usual dialog:

"The Print Setup dialog box is provided by the operating system. To ensure that you can use the full print capabilities of Acrobat, please set all print options from the Application print dialog box. Do you want to continue?"

And if I continue and select the cassette, it still selects from the rear tray.  Does anyone know how to select a different supply bin?

Reducing a PDF file size?

$

I'm almost embarrassed to field this question as I've reduced many PDF file sizes before without problems, but this one has puzzled.

Situation:

I have been sent a PDF and I have no access to the original files. Size 254 x 190mm, 14 pages = file size of 8MB. I'm pretty certain it was created in Powerpoint with large all over images, text and gradients. Audit Space Usage shows 'Content Streams' @ 91.63%.

I need to reduce file size to host on a website.

What I've tried so far:

1. PDF Optimizer in Acrobat 9 Pro (Mac). Downsample colour images to 98 ppi, no fonts in file, transparency [Low Resolution], discard objects [all checked], discard user data [all checked] and clean up [all checked].

Result: same/similar file size

2. Save as option, export to PDF/X and print as PDF in OS/X.

Result: same/similar file size

3. Set-up InDesign document import PDF pages and create new PDF smallest size/maximum images.

Result: larger file size

My next course of action is to open each page in Illustrator and try to optimise individually but before I embark on this lengthly course I wonder if anyone has a quick fix I should try first.

Any ideas? I would be very grateful for suggestions.

Cannot crop PDFs in Acrobat

I want to crop some PDFs to the trim size removing the bleed and printers marks. It seems like this should be a simple procedure in Acrobat using the crop pages command from the document window - but I either get an error message advising me that 'page sizes cannot be reduced' or I get a little progress bar and some whirring but no change to my PDFs. Am I missing something or does the crop page function in Acrobat simple not work?

I'm on Snow Leopard and Acrobat Pro 9 fully patched-up.

Please advise

(note: remarking PDFs from original docs not possible, I have to work from existing PDFs)

PDF to epub??

$

Sorry if it's been asked. I did search, no results.

I'm using Acrobat X Pro and Creative Suite 5 Design Premium......

Can I export or save a PDF to epub format from within Acrobat X Pro? I'm not seeing anything. Seems like it would be a no-brainer to include that functionality.

I know Indesign CS5 does, and I realize I could place PDF pages into ID then export as epub... but I need the functionality within Acrobat so I don't lose links and page transitions already in place for the PDF.

Thanks!
