Acrobat Pro X, Mac OS X 10.6.6, HP OfficeJet Pro 8500A can't detect scanner.

Is there a way to get my Scanner, HP OfficeJet Pro 8500A, recognized by Acrobat X running in Mac OS X 10.6.6

I understand that this HP OfficeJet Pro 8500A print, scan fax, copy, web machine uses PCL as a printer protocol.

Can Acrobat Pro X handle both PCL and Postcript?

If not, is there a workaround?
