Rearranging pages in PDF document

I would like reorder the pages in a pdf document I have compiled from two pdf-files, made from scanning of double-paged documents.

Originally each document holds 10 pages each. Combining them gives me 20 pages.

The order of the pages as it is now, after putting the two files togeher, is: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7,  ... ,19, 20

I would like to change this order to: 1, 10, 2, 11, 3, 4, 12, 5, 13, 4, 14, 5, 6, 15, ....  8, 19, 9, 20.

I know, I can use the the page-navigation-panels (View -> Navigation Panels -> Pages), and drag and drop the pages in the order I wish.

However, for larger files this becomes too cumbersome. I have files with more than 400 pages where I want to do the same thing. In these cases I would need to re-number so that the order becomes: 1, 200, 2, 201, 3, 202, 4, 203, etc...

I would prefer an option that made it possible to select certain pages in the navigation panel for pages, and then give these pages a new number - e.i. select pages 10, 11, 12, 13 ... 19, 20 and re-number them as 1b, 2b, 3b, 4b. Then select to reorder the pages in the new order: 1, 1b, 2, 2b, 3, 3b ... and then finally re-number so that 1, 1b, 2, 2b, 3, 3b ... becomes, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 ...

The problem originates because of the scanning of double-pages. In the initial pdf-file I have two pages on one pdf-page. By merging the file with a copy of the same file, I end up with two copies of the same double-page (e.i. page 1=10, 2=11, 3=12 ....etc.). By using the crop-tool on all odd pages first, I am able to cut away the "extra" scanned page. Afterwards, I then use the crop-tool again on all even pages and cut away the 'extra' scanned page. This gives me a document where I have the pages according to the originally scanned document.

I do not have any experience with using scripts and would need a simple introduction if this action requires a script.

I am using a Macintosh computer, and using 'Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro, version 9.3.4'.

Thanks in advance for any help and advice
