create editable pdf from illustrator?

$

Hi, I am new to Acrobat and editable PDFs so sorry if this is a total beginner question and approach to obtaining assistance. We are trying to use a layout we have created in Illustrator and make certain areas of this page "editable" for others to edit - check boxes and text fields/dates, mostly. Would someone know if there is a way to do such a thing? I hope this is not too vague, and thanks for any help!

An error was encountered while processing images. An error was encountered while flattening transpa

I've looked around on the internet for a solution for this, but I'm finding no answers that help.

I keep getting the following errors in Acrobat Pro 9.3 when trying to use the pdf optimizer. It's driving me nuts. I'm trying to compress an Indesign CS5 generated pdf. It contains transparent objects, and all the images are .ai files.

If I leave the transparency box unchecked I immediately get this error:

An error was encountered while processing images.

If I check Transparency, it shows the little loading bar, as usual, and then when that's done I get this:

An error was encountered while flattening transparent objects.

The most annoying part of this, is that I've been using this same file for months now. Every so often the disclosures on it get updated, and I make the edits in Indesign, export, add form fields, and compress using pdf optimizer. Why all of a sudden is it grumpy? Is this a CS5 issue, because this form may not have been updated since I upgraded to CS5 from CS4?

I've tried swapping out the .ai files with newly saved CS5 versions. I've tried flattening layers pre-export. I cannot remove transparency, so that's not an option. But, as a test I removed all images before export and the pdf compressed fine. Any ideas? There's no broken links or anything in the Indesign file.

Optimizer warning: error encountered while processing images

I'm having a problem optimizing a PDF in Acrobat (9.4.5). I first created a PDF from within PowerPoint (Office for Mac). When I optimize the PDF in Acrobat, I consistently receive a "conversion warning" message stating the an "error was encountered while processing images." I don't have a problem saving PDFs from programs such as InDesign or Illustrator. I tried converting the ppt to an earlier version but receive the same warning in Acrobat.

Any ideas how to fix this? I have a lot of .ppt files to convert into PDF. Thanks.

How does crop pages work in Acrobat?

Although I have "eliminated white space" from pdfs for email attachments, recently I tried cropping a pdf before placing it in an InDesign document (it was saved as a pdf from a crossword puzzle-creating application and sent to me). I seemed to be able to crop it, save the cropped version, and verify that it was cropped by opening the pdf in Acrobat, but when I place the pdf, it always displays the image uncropped. IT suggests that the problem might be that CS2 has difficulties with Vista, although when I try it on my Mac at home, I see the same thing. Is cropping only a function available for viewing pdfs in Acrobat?

I really hope there is a conclusion to this as it's driving me mad (!)

I'm trying to view movies embedded in a pdf, whe I click the movie I get

Does Acrobat X allow custom shortcuts?

This alone would propel me to upgrading from 9 pro if Acrobat X allows it.

Any other "must-have" features from a user perspective? I'd rather hear form users than read the Adobe marketing.

I create tons of PDFx files for commercial press from Indesign as well as web-ready PDFs for user downloads and am interested in anything which improves that process.

Thanks

Resizing a Page in Acrobat Pro

I had to crop approximately 100 pages due to crop marks being included in the original PDF file. Is there a way to now get these pages (in a variety of page sizes, all smaller than letter size) resized to be on a letter sized page?

I've tried recroping the same pages back to the letter size I'm looking for, but it remembers the crop marks.

I'm not trying to enlarge anything, just center the existing page on a letter size page.

Thanks,

Peter

Create a PDF form to allow users to upload an image in Adobe Reader?

$

Heres my MAC workflow.

CS4 Indesign > Acrobat Pro 9 >

Forms > Add Edit Form Fields

then I create a button. (where I want the image placed)

Options > Icon Only, Push

Action > Run Javascript

event.target.buttonImportIcon();

Extend features for Reader.

But no joy.

The image will upload in Pro

But I get an Error in reader

NotAllowedError: Security Settings prevent access to this property.

Really, it seem like an image upload would be such a standard requirement?

anyway how can I make this happen?

or if I am fighting a losing battle, tell me to quit wasting my time.

Small company, an enterprising solution is not in the budget.

Thanks!

Dynamic Stamps in Acrobat 9

I have used Acrobat 3, 4, 5, 6 and have now upgraded to Acrobat Pro 9. My system is OS X Tiger 10.4.11.  A useful feature is the dynamic stamps. I want to take an existing dynamic stamp such as "Reviewed" with the name & date and change the text only to "Scanned" with name & date.  I've read the posts "Creating a Custom Dynamic Stamp" by Anonymous, "Dynamic Stamp Secrets" and "Automating Placements of Annotations" by Thom Parker.  I've also purchased "PDF Forms Bible" by Ted Padova and Angie Okamoto.  All of them tell you how to create custom stamps-that's easy.  The posts above go on to describe modifying an existing dynamic stamp using Acrobat 8.  The instructions are straightforward. However tOK his isn't working for me in Acrobat 9.

First I can't find the existing stamp files.  I can open them in Acrobat 9 OK by Tools>Comment & Markup>Stamps>Show Stamps Palette, but in order to modify them I have to find them in the directory.  I've searched for "Acrobat User Data", "Application Data", and/or "Stamps" no such folders.  Thom Parker says "Acrobat automatically generates stamp files and gives them very cryptic names".  In order to track down the stamp folder I made a custom stamp, saved it and did a search for todays date in order to find it. I couldn't find it!  I opened up Acrobat again and the custom stamp was still there so it had to be saved somewhere.

Where is the stamp file kept in OS X 10.4.11.  Has anyone actually modified a dynamic stamp using Acrobat 9 under OS X 10.4.11?  I read all the posts having to do with Acrobat 8 and they don't cut it.  Anyone with recent experience, your help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Mac OS X Acrobat 8 Pro - Cannot attach PDF file to new email message

$

When clicking on the"attach PDF file to a new email message" button, or by selecting "attach to email" from the File Menu; the following error is received:

"An error occurred while trying to create a mail document. Acrobat is unable to complete your request."

I have checked, and Entourage is set as the default mail client, and is functioning correctly.

I thought that the default mail client not being set would cause this problem, and setting it would correct it, but that is not the case. There doesn't appear to be any "email" settings in Acrobat, unless I missed something.

This problem has been present almost as long as CS3 has been installed.

Acrobat 8 Professional is up to date at 8.2.2

Entourage 2008 is up to date at 12.2.4, and is configured for use with Exchange.

Mac OS X Snow Leopard is up to date at 10.6.3.

Any help would be greatly appriciated. I have fixed this problem before, but cannot find my notes on the fix. If I figure it out, I will update this thread with the solution. Searching Google for "mac acrobat cannot attach pdf to new email message", "An error occurred while trying to create a mail document. Acrobat is  unable to complete your request." (or anything of the like), or "mac cannot email from acrobat", etc, etc, etc, just leads to a world of unhelpful information...which is why I am creating this post.

How does one change the font size after the text has been entered into the text box.

The Properties Bar is no help. It appears to have NOTHING to do with the font type or size.

Has this "feature" been removed from Acrobat 9 Pro???

PDF: Can I re-align text?

$

I have a pdf (NOT the original document). At the top of each page is a headline that's centered. My client wants me to add on a few words to these headlines. However, when I do this, the text just adds to the right. I can't see where to re-align the text so it's once again centered. Or at least get them all left-justified. Any ideas?

I thought about deleting the headline and creating a new header... but I can't even figure out how to add in text (other than on the original line). I looked it up online and found something about the Text Annotation tool... but I can't find it in version 9. Would that be an option? Or is that just an editing tool?

And yes, I know Acrobat is not an editing program. But I don't have much choice in this situation, as there is no original document.

Thanks.

Blurring/hiding text in Acrobat

$

Acrobat 9.0.0

I'm a new user. I would like to know if Acrobat has a feature where I can blur parts of the text so that my reader will not see them. Ideally, this would just be a selection tool type of an action.

If not, does anyone have any tips from hiding parts of a document from a reader? I want the reader to see that there is some text there, but that it is not available for them to read.

Thanks!
