My indd file is 201x40 inches with a 1.5 inch slug. When I export to pdf I get this message, "The document page size exceeds the page size range supported in PDF files. Exported pages will be resized to fit within PDF limits."

converting PDF to grayscale

I am using Adobe CS 3, Acrobat 8 Professional, on Mac OS 10.4.11

I am trying to convert a full color PDF document to grayscale. I tried to click Advanced > Print Production > Convert Colors and then Grayscale, but it is not working.

I tried clicking Print and then choosing a PDF option, but it is taking unreasonably long and not finishing.

So how can I convert it to grayscale?

OCR renderable text error

someone was having the problem below with an older version of acrobat.

is there now a solution in acrobat mac x?

i note that exporting to image file loses quality and increases file size

thanks

Well, since this is the digital age, it makes sense that I ought to  read the PDFs in digital form (this is a stretch for me, I really like  paper), which is facilitated by a tablet since I can actually see the  page when it’s in the portrait configuration.  It also makes sense that I  ought to mark up the file in Acrobat, using the native highlighting and  searching tools, which is also facilitated by the tablet for obvious  reasons.

Here’s the problem.  Apparently *every* PDF file, in every digital library, is tagged with headers, or footers, or bates numbers, or some other tag that halts the OCR recognition of the PDF file.   If you google “This page contains renderable text”, you’ll see that  this has been a complaint since Acrobat 6 at least.  So you can’t just  OCR the document and get a nice,  mark-up-able document.

Now, I know what you’re thinking.  There has to be a workaround,  right?  Of course, there is.  You can manually remove the headers and  try again.  Oh, now there’s a footer; you can take that out too  (manually) and try again.  Oh, now there’s a bates number, okay, take  that out too.  There’s STILL some renderable text in there somewhere,  well, now you can either try and edit out the blocks of renderable text  (again, manually, made more entertaining by the fact that you can’t just  right click on the page and say “remove renderable text”), or you can  export the entire document to a graphics file (say, a TIFF), re-convert  it to a PDF file (which turns the entire document into a rasterized  image), and THEN run the OCR tool to get an actual mark-up-able  document.  This process is made more enjoyable by the fact that Acrobat  will turn that 300 page dissertation you’re reading as part of your  research into 300 distinct TIFF files, which you then need to recombine  into a PDF file.  Multiply this by 100, and you’ll see what sort of a  barrier to productivity this is for me to get started organizing my  existing document collection.

This is CLOSE TO THE DUMBEST THING I HAVE EVER SEEN.  And I’ve seen a  LOT of bad design.  Rather than prompting me “This document has  renderable text” and giving me “Cancel” as the only option, any  feature-driven developer would say, “Gosh, people get really frustrated  by this.  I know, because I can read the results of a simple google search.    We need to change this right away!  Here, I’ll make it so that you  can just click ‘Treat existing renderable text as white space’ or even  prompt the user to rasterize the renderable text and embed it in the  document, then OCR the resulting file!”

The only conceivable reason I can imagine that this hasn’t taken  place is because your lovable electronic document vendor wants to make  it a colossally, enormously painful process for someone to actually do anything to the document they’re providing you to use.  Thank you, electronic  document vendor.  You’re going to be wasting about 20% of the time that  you’re saving me by giving me electronic access to this document in the  first place.

Progress is grand.  Collide it with self-interest, progress seems to lose out more often than not.

Now, if you’ll pardon me, I’m going to go get some sleep.  Then I’m  going to get up in the morning and go to work.  Then I’m going to come  home, and instead of enjoying some family time with my kids, I’m going  to fart around with manual document conversion.

Align Text In Acrobat 9 Pro

Hi,

Hope you can help. I just got Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro. I figured out how to edit text in a PDF, but when I do it does not keep the text centered.

How can I center text?

Thanks.

Text gets hidden on PDF form

I have created a PDF form with Acrobat Pro 9 and saved it as a form extending its features to Reader.

When I open the form with Reader 9 it allows me to fill in the fields but I can only see text in the field I am clicked on. Any previous fields I have typed text into is hidden (invisible) as soon as I click on another field.

I tried selecting all the fields and changing the background to a random color and then back to a non-colour and saving that form. When I opend it in Reader I was able to see all the text that I input and I though it was fixed. But when you close the file and save it and then reopen it, all the text is hidden again until you click on each field to be able to see it.

Does anyone know what's going on?

Create a PDF form to allow users to upload an image in Adobe Reader?

Heres my MAC workflow.

CS4 Indesign > Acrobat Pro 9 >

Forms > Add Edit Form Fields

then I create a button. (where I want the image placed)

Options > Icon Only, Push

Action > Run Javascript

event.target.buttonImportIcon();

Extend features for Reader.

But no joy.

The image will upload in Pro

But I get an Error in reader

NotAllowedError: Security Settings prevent access to this property.

Really, it seem like an image upload would be such a standard requirement?

anyway how can I make this happen?

or if I am fighting a losing battle, tell me to quit wasting my time.

Small company, an enterprising solution is not in the budget.

Thanks!

PDF: Can I re-align text?

I have a pdf (NOT the original document). At the top of each page is a headline that's centered. My client wants me to add on a few words to these headlines. However, when I do this, the text just adds to the right. I can't see where to re-align the text so it's once again centered. Or at least get them all left-justified. Any ideas?

I thought about deleting the headline and creating a new header... but I can't even figure out how to add in text (other than on the original line). I looked it up online and found something about the Text Annotation tool... but I can't find it in version 9. Would that be an option? Or is that just an editing tool?

And yes, I know Acrobat is not an editing program. But I don't have much choice in this situation, as there is no original document.

Thanks.

Julie

Got a W9 tax form to complete. I was able to highlight all the fields with the Highlight Fields button. I believe I have created a proper signature under Advanced=Security Settings. When I click on Advanced=Sign & Certify, I only am able to "Preview" the document. What am I doing wrong? Using v. 8.1.6

Cannot find or create the font ArialMT

Just recently I started getting the message when opening pdf files containing ArialMT (typically by PC users) (I am using a Mac obviously and Acrobat 9.3.3):

Cannot find or create the font ArialMT. Some characters may not display or print correctly.

I've looked around in the forums and no one else has had this problem answered. Can't find anything else on the subject that pertains to how to fix it on a Mac, only on a PC using coding.

Acrobat 9 Pro

Mac 10.6

Text Box

How does one change the font size after the text has been entered into the text box.

The Properties Bar is no help. It appears to have NOTHING to do with the font type or size.

Has this "feature" been removed from Acrobat 9 Pro???

Thanks,

Resizing a Page in Acrobat Pro

$

I had to crop approximately 100 pages due to crop marks being included in the original PDF file. Is there a way to now get these pages (in a variety of page sizes, all smaller than letter size) resized to be on a letter sized page?

I've tried recroping the same pages back to the letter size I'm looking for, but it remembers the crop marks.

I'm not trying to enlarge anything, just center the existing page on a letter size page.

Thanks,

Peter

Changing the measuring tool units and measurements

$

Hi,

When reading the PDF in Acrobat 9 Pro, how can I change the measurement units  from inches to metric when using the measuring tool?

I have already been  to Preferences and changed in Units and Guides the Page and Rules Units  to millimeters but then, although the rulers do change to mm, the  measuring tool (the red lines) still read in inches...I have also made sure the Measuring (2D) preferences show the 'Use Scale and Units from Documents' is checked.

Does anyone kow how I could get the measuring tool to give me the dimensions in metrics?

It would be truly great if anyone could clarify this. Thank you so much!

Can someone help me figure this out, I can open Acrobat and run it for about 5 seconds, then this message pops up "There was a RAISE without a handler. The application will now exit." and Acrobat Pro closes.

I am running Mac OSX 10.5.8 and Acrobat Pro 9.3.3.  I have tried going back to a previous version of Acrobat but I get the same error.  I am using Firefox, someone suggested it is a Safari thing, but I have never used Safari, not sure why it would be associated anyway, but trying to give as much info as I can.

Help please?
