Adobe Acrobat - text box - e-mail validation

$

Hello,

I want to create a textbox where the user can only type in a e-mail adress.
First I tested it with the format. But the user-specified formats "O@O.A" or "X@X.A" are not a solution.

I'm not the specialist for JavaScript for Acrobat API but I hope, someone can help me to find a solution.

My idea is probably understandable.

$local_part$ + "@" + $domain_part$

and $domain_part$ contains a dot (".") and the part after the dot must have two and can have maximum three letters.

I hope someone can help me.

Thanks in advance,

Need help with resizing and adding bleed to a PDF

$

Hey guys, I have a pdf that's sized, full bleed at 6.5 x 8.357 in and the publisher wants the following:

Pre-cut Page Size (including bleed):  7 5/8 (7.625) X 9 1/2

Top, bottom, outside edge bleed border: 1/4''

Inside (spine) bleed border: 3/8'' (.3750)

Cut Page size: 7” X 9”

Artwork size: Set within a 7” x 9” cut page, there should be 3/16" (.1875) white border on outside left or outside right edge and 5/16" (.3125) border on the inside (spine) edge.  Top and bottom edge borders will be proportional (they will end up larger I think).

So basically the original file is going to float in the middle of the bleeds listed above. Is there an easy way to do this in Adobe Acrobat Pro or do I need to (finally) learn how to use InDesign?

thanks,

Reduce 35mb PDF to 5mb - looks bad

I created an InDesign file that was built for outputting to print. There were lots of high resolution images in the InDesign file for the print quality.

I exported with Screen optimised settings and got a 35mb PDF, and image quality is fine.

My client has now asked me to create a sub-5mb version of this file so he can email to his client. I've tried PDF Optimizer and had to drop the resolution to 9dpi, and JPEG compression to Low, to get to 5.1mb.  Image quality is utterly unreadable, and it needs to be better.

Is there any way I can get this file down to sub 5mb and readable?

Thanks.  Ashley

Need to create PDF spreads in Acrobat

Hello, I have a bunch of single page pdf documents that I would like to resave as PDF spreads. In Acrobat Pro 8 I can set my print options to have 2 up but when I choose the option "Save as PDF" from the print dialogue box the message "Saving a PDF file when printing is not supported. Instead, choose File > Save." pops up.

Is there a plugin or preference or something that will turn this function back on? Or is there another workaround that does the same thing? I do not want to print spreads, I want to create pdfs of spreads from individual pdfs.

Thanks for your help!

Resizing a Page in Acrobat Pro

I had to crop approximately 100 pages due to crop marks being included in the original PDF file. Is there a way to now get these pages (in a variety of page sizes, all smaller than letter size) resized to be on a letter sized page?

I've tried recroping the same pages back to the letter size I'm looking for, but it remembers the crop marks.

I'm not trying to enlarge anything, just center the existing page on a letter size page.

Thanks,

Peter

Cannot find or create the font ArialMT

Just recently I started getting the message when opening pdf files containing ArialMT (typically by PC users) (I am using a Mac obviously and Acrobat 9.3.3):

Cannot find or create the font ArialMT. Some characters may not display or print correctly.

I've looked around in the forums and no one else has had this problem answered. Can't find anything else on the subject that pertains to how to fix it on a Mac, only on a PC using coding.

How can I preserve RGB color within Adobe PDF?

I'm using Acrobat Pro 9.3.1, OS 10.6, and I'm creating PDF output from Keynote, strictly for on-screen viewing.  I would like to use Acrobat Pro to create a compact PDF file with screen-resolution graphics, however I keep running into problems with color changes applied by Acrobat.

The document contains bright RGB colors.  It also contains images, some of which are high DPI resolution.

* If I use the OS X "Save As PDF..." feature, the generated file is about 32 MB.  Opening the resulting file with Preview, the file looks fine.  Opening the resulting file with Acrobat, though, shows the bright colors in the file as very drab-- almost as though it's been compressed into CMYK space.    Once it's in Acrobat, I can use the PDF Optimizer and save it as a mostly-adequate 10 MB file, but the color issue is annoying.

* If I use the "Save as Adobe PDF" feature, and save the file with "standard" settings, the resulting PDF file is 27 MB.  If opened in Acrobat, it shows the same CYMK-like color compression, and if opened in Preview, it shows the bright colors.

* If I use the "Save as Adobe PDF" feature, and save the file with "PDF/A-1b:2005 (RGB)" settings, the resulting PDF file is 50 MB. In both Acrobat and Preview, it shows up with full and correct colors. So obviously Acrobat is capable of handling RGB after all.  But this format is not really compatible-- it throws a warning about viewing in that format, and has all kinds of graphical glitches.  And, the file is even larger than I started with.

So, what I would like to know is this: How can I set up acrobat to let me produce those nice 10 MB files, without showing the funny color compression?

To password protect editable form data?

Please help. I have a series of pdfs with form fields in them. The data in the form fields needs to be edited, in Acrobat Reader, by only authorised people - and they need to be able to save their changes.

I have Acrobat 9.4 Pro and have tried by using 'Advanced>Security>Encrypt with Password'. I have then checked the Restrict Editing box, entered a password, selected the High Res Printing option and None for Changes Allowed and proceeded with the reentering of the password. I have then selected 'Advanced>Extended Features in Reader' (to facilitate the save option in Reader).

The result, however, is a pdf which is editable and saveable by anyone in Acrobat Reader but demands a password if you try to edit the document in a programme like Illustrator which defeats the purpose. Is there another way to secure the file to achieve the desired result. Your help would be much appreciated.

How to increase the image size of a digital signature

No matter how large large I sign a piece of paper or how large a graphic file I use, or the format I save it as (PNG, PDF, JPG), when I go to actually place my signature in a signature box, the resulting image is tiny, as well as not terribly bold.  One, how do I increase the size of how my scanned signature appears?  And two, how do I make it appear more bold?  Thank you for your help.

Adobe "Service" on Acrobat X - disaster!

Hi Guys,

Yesterday: spam from Adobe raving about their new "Acrobat X"

Yesterday: purchased and downloaded upgrade version.

Today: 97 minutes on hold before speaking to a call centre operator because software licence would not load

Today: 97 minutes on Adobe website trying to fill out a written service request (can't do so until product registered!)

Today: told my registration is "not valid" because I did not own Acrobat 7 for Mac (switched from PC late last year)

Today: told to go look for a form on the Adobe website where I could de-register my purchase for a refund.

Today: waited an additional ten minutes "on hold" for a "supervisor" before realising the line was dead.

I'm totally wierded out here - is Adobe service really this bad?

I have owned: CS2 MC, CS3 MC, CS4 MC, CS5 Production Premium.

Shouldn't I be eligible for an upgrade?

What have I missed?

Matt

How Do You Enlarge Text In Acrobat X?

All I want to do is go into a PDF file and enlarge the text, so that when I print it, the text is larger than what has been sent to me.

Can someone with a generous heart, just please give me  step by step guidance?  Literally, a step by step guide as in, go here, then go there, then do this, then do that.

Brought the software this year, 2011.  At a lost.

Thank you so much,

Peter Reznikoff

Splitting an A3 page into 2 A4s

$

Hi!

I'm a journalist and after publication of the magazine, my editor sends me my articles in pdf format to use in my portfolio.

The problem is, when the article is longer than one page, they send me the pdfs with 2 pages as one - an A3 instead of two A4s, if you'd like. I've been looking through every menu in Acrobat trying to figure out how to simply split the page in the middle and make two pages out of it, but I can't figure it out.

I guess I could go through several stages of cropping, creating new documents, merging them... etc - but I'm sure there's a faster way!

Any help would be most appreciated!

Many thanks

PS: if you need to see what I mean, check out my portfolio on issuu - the first couple of pages are A4s, then suddenly I get A3s : http://issuu.com/princesskarlotta/docs/art_film

Find and Search Results not highlighting

I recently installed the update to 9.4.5. Now when I do a find or search, the results aren't always highlighted. It takes me to the page, but most of the time, found text is not highlighted.

I'm using a MacBook Pro, running OS 10.6.8.

Any clue how I can get the highlighting to show again?

Issue with 'Please fill out this form' message

$

I'm primarily a print designer and produce a number of small magazines for various clients. For the last few issues I've also created an interactive PDF from the original InDesign CS4 file. It's quite simplistic - just some next page/previous page/zoom in/zoom out buttons and various hyperlinks to external content etc.

These have always worked fine in the past but the latest one I've exported as a PDF has the purple warning box at the top 'Please fill out the following form...'. I understand from the forums that you can't remove this bar but none of the previous files I've exported have had it - I assume because there were no editable fields on the document just simple click boxes to navigate, zoom, link to URL etc.

Can anyone think what I've done differently on this latest PDF to now get this warning? I've check the 'Fields' list in Acrobat Pro and all the fields are simple 'OK' buttons (on both the old files and the new one). It doesn't make any sense to show the purple bar as there is not form to fill in, just buttons to click.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Cheers in advance,

Jon

Hyperlink has extra dashes added when converted to PDF from Word

I'm on a Mac (10.6), using Word 2011, and when I convert a doc containing two rather long hyperlinks (one noted below) extra dashes get added during the PDF conversion process (Print to PDF or Save As) and the links are clickable, but are no longer correct so it goes to an "Oops" page.

I saw someone mention that this feature does not work on Macs. Is that true?

I found a work around of pulling the pdf into Acrobat Pro 9 and then inserting a link on top of the bad one(s) (Tools/Advanced Editing/Link Tool), but I'm trying to understand why they didn't work in the first place.

Here's one of the links (it doesn't seem to matter whether it has http:// or not...tried it both ways):

www.khanacademy.org/video/describing-the-meaning-of-percent?playlist=Developmental Math

When I convert it to PDF from Word, the link becomes:

www.khanacademy.org/video/describing--the--meaning--of--percent?playlist=Developmental Math

Any ideas why that might be happening?

Cannot update or uninstall Acrobat 9 Pro

I have installed Acrobat 9.0.0 Pro on a MacBook Pro 13" with OS X 10.5.7. Several attempts to update it to 9.1.2 have failed, with the last producing a mesage that the application has been modified. The uninstaller could not select the application either (with a message that it has been modified). This has never happened before to me (Acrobat 4, 5, 7, and 8). Please help.

Thank you.

Acrobat X on OS X 10.6.8 Printing Fails

$

I am printing to an Epson Stylus Photo 280, and have installed the lastest Epson Printer Update 2.7 via software update.

Whenever I try and print the printer starts to make noise, but then the printing fails and I get the following error message every time:

"Error: /Library/Printers/Epson/InkjetPrinter2/Filter/rastertoescpll.app/contents/MacOS/rasteroes cpll failed"

I can print any PDF using preview, but nothing prints via Acrobat X. Any PDF I try instantly fails.

Does anyone have any ideas on this, as bascially this makes Acrobat X pretty useless.
