How do I adjust form line spacing? Or auto-jump from line to line?

$

0

I keep having this issue when I build hybrid PDF forms to be filled out by hand or electronically.

To fill out the form by hand, it is helpful to draw lines for the user to write on. So in multiple line fields, we may have 5-6 lines so they can write in paragraph form.

To fill out the same area electronically, we would like to have a multi-line form field over the lines, so they can write in paragraph style.

The problem is, the lines do not line up with the text when they type electronically. And I do not see a way to adjust the leading on multi-line form fields.

I know I can design the form with the lines really close together, so the multi-line form field lines up with the "printed" lines. But then the lines are too close together to write in easily for those who want to fill itout by hand.

So I "think" the solution is to (a) figure out how to adjust the leading between lines in a multi-line form field, or (b) create many single line form fields and have them "jump" automatically to the next/previous field when typing in them.

Is one of these a possibility? Of so, how? Or is there another suggestion?

Thanks,

Bob

How to save a specified page range in a multi page form

Hi,

I'm working on a multipage PDF document consisting of several electronic forms. At the end of each form there is a SUBMIT button to send the form via email. Is there a javascript to specify the page range that gets submitted, so that only the one form that is filled out gets submitted, rather than the enitre PDF?

Many Thanks!

Limit PDF printing to one copy?

Thought I'd resurrect this topic from a couple years ago to see if anything has changed.

I'd like to restrict printing of a PDF coupon to one or perhaps a defined number of copies once a user has the PDF downloaded.

There is one company that sells a program to do this (Safeguard) but they have priced it ridiculously.

There is an online subscription service (FileOpen Systems) that circumvents having the PDF downloaded so that the user can only print a defined number (might be the best solution), but was hoping Adobe either may have added this feature or a simple plugin exists to do this.

Acrobat X Pro crashes after 10 seconds

Hello!

We use Creative Suite 5.5 Design Premium on 2 computers, both were updated vom Version 3. Usually everything works fine, we mostly use Dreamweaver, Illustrator and Photoshop and no problems.

But.... wen we try to open Acrobat X Pro, the app closes after a few seconds (about 10-15), sometimes we get a file opened but then Acrobat crashes without any message/error.

What can it be? Maybe some licensing thing? Both installations are registered and the other CS-Apps work exepct Acrobat (also Distiller doesn't work).

I do only have access to one computer, but here are the parameters:

Mac Mini with 2 GB Ram

Mac OS X 10.6.8 installed (Snow Leopard)

As mentioned it is CS 5.5 Design Premium.

I think the other one is a MacBook with about the same Mac OS X.

Does anyone know how I am able to find out the problem? Or does anyone already have a solution for this?

Kind regards

Yann

Security Method is grayed out

I need to change the Security Method on a PDF file so I can reduce the file size with file optimizer.

The problem is the drop-down menu for Security Method (File > Properties > Security) is grayed out. Also, the button for "Change Settings" and "Show Details" are grayed out as well. Below, the Document Restructions Summary shows "Allowed" for everything listed.

In the meantime, "PDF Optimizer" remains grayed out and I need to reduced the size of a PDF.

Any help with this would be appreciated.

Thanks

Text gets hidden on PDF form

I have created a PDF form with Acrobat Pro 9 and saved it as a form extending its features to Reader.

When I open the form with Reader 9 it allows me to fill in the fields but I can only see text in the field I am clicked on. Any previous fields I have typed text into is hidden (invisible) as soon as I click on another field.

I tried selecting all the fields and changing the background to a random color and then back to a non-colour and saving that form. When I opend it in Reader I was able to see all the text that I input and I though it was fixed. But when you close the file and save it and then reopen it, all the text is hidden again until you click on each field to be able to see it.

Does anyone know what's going on?

Adobe Acrobat Pro Spell Checker does not work - Finds no misspelling

Spell checking (Edit - Spell Checking) does not work in Adobe Acrobat Pro X 10.1.1 on Mac OS X 10.6.8. Checking any document in any language always indicates:

"Spell check complete. No misspellings found"

Yet, there are many misspellings. Even tested with a PDF file created for that, filled with wrong words. Acrobat spell checking says they are all OK, yet they are all wrong.

Similar to this:

Spell Check in Acrobat 8 and Reader 8

How to fix it?

Thanks.

How do I create an eBook with Acrobat 9 Pro?

Acrobat 9 Pro came bundled with the Suite I got, but I never installed it because I can make PDFs just be selecting Print as PDF on my Mac.

Now I'd like to produce an ebook. Is there a reason to use Acrobat 9 Pro instead? I've searched everywhere and can't find complete instructions for this.

Thank you.

Removing image titles/names from PDF files

$

Hi:

Many organizations give out PDF files for handouts following talks at business conferences.

Many of these PDF files contain images embedded within the text.

In the old days, when paper handouts were distributed, there were no problems; the images were shown appropriately within the text on the printed page.

Now that folks are going “green”, organizers are typically giving out electronic copies of the PDFs on CDs or USB drives. The issue here is that if one hovers a mouse over the image in the PDF file, the name and sometimes path description of the embedded image appears. Some of the speakers name the images with proprietary information/titles on their personal computers. When they embed the image within the PDF file, this confidential name/title is also embedded in the PDF. Then, when the recipient of the PDF reads the PDF electronically on her/his computer and hovers her/his mouse over the image, this confidential information pops up for all to see.

One option to fix this would be to ask each speaker to rename the image to something neutral before embedding into the PDF. (BTW, most of these PDFs are generated from PowerPoint files, so the speaker puts the image into PowerPoint, then converts into a PDF from PowerPoint; this is the source for these problematic PDF files). However, given human nature, and that there are 100s of speakers over the years, it is unlikely that this would be a reliable, robust solution.

Thus, does anyone know of a method to automatically “strip” all image titles from within a PDF file? Is there some way to use Adobe Acrobat Professional, or some third party software solution, to run all PDF files through a cleansing software algorithm to remove title information from PDF files, so that it is no longer present in the distributed PDF files, and so that when a reader hovers her/his mouse over the image, nothing pops up???

Thank you very much.

PS: Hopefully, this solution would be platform independent, id est, it wouldn't matter whether one was using a Mac or PC

Adding new font to Adobe Acrobat (interactive forms section)

$

Hi All,

I'm trying to create a interactive business card, with a clients font. Each time I bring the PDF in from indesign and set up all the form sections, i can set the size, the colour but I can't set the font as the clients font in the panel, in this case Avant Guard (which can be embedded and was in the PDF from indesign). I've tried everything i can think of, including adding the font to my system fonts.

Does anyone know how to do this?

Any help would be greatly appricated.

Cheers.

How to export images in Acrobat Pro X v10.x for Mac?

How to export images using Acrobat Pro X v10.1.1?

This is a positive criticism: it was easy with Acrobat Pro X v.9.x. The new Acrobat interface without menus and submenus is awkward and utterly anti-intuitive. If it ain't broke don't fix it!!! Thanks.

Why does my PDF look so CRAPPY when I print through acrobat???

$

I have been having troubles with exporting a PDF from an Indesign file.. when I printed the exported PDF from acrobat, text was printing out very pixelated. I was exporting the file in indesign as a press quality pdf. The text looked fine when I viewed it in acrobat and zoomed in, but when I printed it out it looked very pixelated and not as black as it had when I had printed the file directly from indesign.

so this is what I've figured it out so far... I was exporting to PDF in indesign then opening it in adobe arobat pro and printing from there... for some reason when I went into my advanced print settings in acrobat, it was set to "print as image: 100 dpi." I changed it and it printed out better but not perfect. To double check it was adobe that was causing the issue, I opened and printed the pdf through mac preview. This looked perfect - - exactly like it did when I printed through INDD.

So my questions are, 1> WHY does it automatically printing as an image 100 dpi in adobe? and 2> how can I change this setting so when my client opens it up, they dont have to mess with any of the print settings to get it to look how it's supposed to? Is this a setting I can change when I save the file? I want to make sure it prints out correctly because one of the fonts used is ultralight and can look very very light if printed incorrecty. It looks perfect when I print through preview, but even printing as an image in 600 dpi through acrobat pro, the ultralight font looks lighter and more faded than it should (and than it does in the preview and INDD printed files). If i unselect the "print as image" checkbox, the ultralight text looks better but still not perfect. So that would make my second question >> WHY is the print quality worse when I print through adobe, and how can I remedy this? Any ideas??? Any help much appreciated!

Can't Get pdfs to Open with Acrobat in Safari

$

I cannot get Safari to open or download any pdfs in Acrobat.

If I go to a page that has a pdf, it opens in Preview.

If I go to a page (like my online banking sites) that downloads statements, it does nothing.  I just get a non-printable screen.

It works on other computers not running Safari 5.1.2 and Mac OS 10.6.8.

A clue: for whatever reason, neither the Adobe Reader nor Adobe Acrobat (I have both) plugin appears in user/library/internet plugins.  In fact there is nothing in that folder.  I do have the Acrobat preferences set to display pdfs in browser.

Any help out there?

Dynamic Stamps in Acrobat 9

$

I have used Acrobat 3, 4, 5, 6 and have now upgraded to Acrobat Pro 9. My system is OS X Tiger 10.4.11.  A useful feature is the dynamic stamps. I want to take an existing dynamic stamp such as "Reviewed" with the name & date and change the text only to "Scanned" with name & date.  I've read the posts "Creating a Custom Dynamic Stamp" by Anonymous, "Dynamic Stamp Secrets" and "Automating Placements of Annotations" by Thom Parker.  I've also purchased "PDF Forms Bible" by Ted Padova and Angie Okamoto.  All of them tell you how to create custom stamps-that's easy.  The posts above go on to describe modifying an existing dynamic stamp using Acrobat 8.  The instructions are straightforward. However tOK his isn't working for me in Acrobat 9.

First I can't find the existing stamp files.  I can open them in Acrobat 9 OK by Tools>Comment & Markup>Stamps>Show Stamps Palette, but in order to modify them I have to find them in the directory.  I've searched for "Acrobat User Data", "Application Data", and/or "Stamps" no such folders.  Thom Parker says "Acrobat automatically generates stamp files and gives them very cryptic names".  In order to track down the stamp folder I made a custom stamp, saved it and did a search for todays date in order to find it. I couldn't find it!  I opened up Acrobat again and the custom stamp was still there so it had to be saved somewhere.

Where is the stamp file kept in OS X 10.4.11.  Has anyone actually modified a dynamic stamp using Acrobat 9 under OS X 10.4.11?  I read all the posts having to do with Acrobat 8 and they don't cut it.  Anyone with recent experience, your help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Font substitution.

I'm on an iMac running 10.4.11 and have updated to Acrobat Reader Version 9.

I'm receiving PDFs from a colleague whose originating document is using Courier font.

When the PDF is opened on my system the document's Courier font has been substituted with font: Adobe Sans MM as detailed in the Properties file of the document. Adobe Sans MM does not appear to exist withing my system.

The originating system is a PC running Vista. The PDFs are created using: doPDF.

The font substitution does not appear within the originating system.

Any theories?
